Olive Wood Tau Cross Pendant

1” High - 31” Cotton Cord

This beautifully crafted Tau pendant is made in Italy from smooth, warm olive wood and features an inset metal center inscribed with Pax et Bonum—the beloved Franciscan greeting meaning “Peace and Goodness.” Long cherished as the symbol of St. Francis, the Tau cross represents humility, blessing, and a life rooted in faith. Suspended on a durable cord, it’s perfect for daily wear and a meaningful reminder of the simplicity and peace at the heart of Franciscan spirituality. A thoughtful gift for anyone devoted to St. Francis or seeking a symbol of hope and encouragement.

The Tau is an ancient representation of the cross.  It is also the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet and is thought to be the sign with which Ezekiel marked those chosen by God (Ex 9:4). St. Francis loved the meaning of the Tau so much he signed his letters with this symbol.  When a Franciscan friar wears a habit and stands with his hands outstretched, he becomes a Tau, a living Tau.  The Tau is designated as the distinctive sign of the Franciscan Order.

Made in Italy.
