A beautifully crafted olive wood San Damiano cross with a pewter metal Crucifix inside. The embedded Crucifix is a replica of the San Damiano cross that spoke to St. Francis. The pendant depicts the story of salvation in intricate detail with the disciples.

In 1205, Francis felt called to pray before the crucifix in the abandoned San Damiano chapel near Assisi.  When the image of Christ on the cross miraculously spoke the words, “Francis, go and repair My house”, Francis accepted this as his mission.  He first worked to repair the church buildings, but his great repair of the Church was his founding of the Franciscan order.  The icon cross remains an important symbol to Franciscans.
