This San Damiano cross is a quality replica of the original San Damiano Cross which hangs in the Basilica of St. Clare in Assisi, Italy. It has fine details and a quality you won’t find anywhere else. It comes with a mountable backing for a small hook or nail. 

 In 1205, Francis felt called to pray before the crucifix in the abandoned San Damiano chapel near Assisi.  When the image of Christ on the cross miraculously spoke the words, “Francis, go and repair My house”, Francis accepted this as his mission.  He first worked to repair the church buildings, but his great repair of the Church was his founding of the Franciscan order.  The icon cross remains an important symbol to Franciscans.
