Ladybug Stretch Bracelet

This handmade bracelet from Assisi features ladybug beads and hematite beads.  It has a small metal cross and an olive wood Tau cross.

The ladybug is often associated with the Virgin Mary, and its name reflects this connection. The story goes that in medieval Europe, farmers were struggling with pests that were destroying their crops. In desperation, they prayed to the Virgin Mary for help. Soon after, swarms of ladybugs appeared, devouring the harmful pests and saving the crops. The farmers attributed this miracle to Mary and began calling the beetle "Our Lady’s beetle," which later became "ladybug."

The Tau is an ancient representation of the cross.  It is also the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet and is thought to be the sign with which Ezekiel marked those chosen by God (Ex 9:4). St. Francis loved the meaning of the Tau so much he signed his letters with this symbol.  When a Franciscan friar wears a habit and stands with his hands outstretched, he becomes a Tau, a living Tau.  The Tau is a distinctive Franciscan symbol.

Made in Assisi.
