The Samaritan woman at the well is a figure from the New Testament in the Bible. Her story is recounted in the Gospel of John, Chapter 4, Verses 1-42. The woman meets Jesus at Jacob's well near the town of Sychar in Samaria. Jesus, tired from his journey, asks her for a drink of water. This interaction is significant because Jews and Samaritans typically did not associate with each other. The woman speaks of the coming Messiah, and Jesus reveals to her that he is the Messiah. The woman leaves her water jar and goes back to the town, telling the people about Jesus. Many Samaritans from the town come to believe in Jesus because of her testimony and their own encounters with him.
